In Sanskrit, Pakshaghata means immobility of one side of the body, where Paksha signifies either the right or left half of the body and aghast, or paralysis, signifies impairment of the sensory organs, Karmendriya (the organ of action), and Manas (the mind).  In Pakshaghata Vata becomes irritated and dries up the Strotas and Snayu of one side of the body, which prevents that side’s organs from functioning. This results in loss of feeling and other characteristics like inactivity of one half of the body, either the right or left, which is linked to pain and speechlessness.

Hemiplegia, which affects the face, limbs, and trunk on one or both sides of the body, is the most common stroke presentation resulting from a neurological deficit. It is characterized by paralysis in one side of the body due to lesions in the motor area on the opposite side of the brain. Hemiplegia is mostly caused by acute ischemic stroke of the brain, which might involve one or more pathogenic diseases such as thrombolytic, inflammatory, or hemorrhagic brain alterations. The primary reason for these alterations is either chronic or sudden hypertension. Within a brief period of 4–10 minutes, there is an abrupt blockage of an intracranial artery in the area, resulting in ischemia.
