Attention deficient hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a behavioral disorder. The symptoms normally begin to develop in children around 2 years of age.

According to Ayurveda vata dosha is the main dosha involved in all types of movements and activities in the body, so ADHD is a a vata imbalance disorder that affects the mind functions. Hyperactivity may have pitta imbance.

The exact cause of ADHD is unknown, however factors like genetics, low birth rate, premature birth, certain medications during pregnancy, diet followed during pregnancy and the child followed after birth can cause an imbalance in doshas, reducing the mind quality & immunity can be considered as a probable cause.
Ayurveda treatment for ADHD
The ayurvedic line of treatment involves correcting the dosha imbalance and normalizing brain functions like memory and intelligence, learning ability, speech etc.
Correcting the digestive fire is essential, so avoid processed foods, sugary foods & foods with artificial preservatives. Including mind-calming foods like warm soups, walnuts, almonds, and flax seeds for nourishment are beneficial.
Ayurvedic herbs like bhrami, shankapushpi, ashwagandha & katuki are beneficial for enhancing brain function &calming the mind. To reduce restlessness calm and distraction-free environment is beneficial.
